I don't want to lose my keys

The following can be applied to keys in general and safe keys in particular. After all, “Better be safe than sorry”, right?

If you have keys you do not want to lose or you just lost some keys and you don’t want that to happen again, here is what to do:

1. Do not put safe keys in the safe, batteries may die and you will not be able to open the safe or get the keys. Instead, store your safe keys in a secure location that is not easily accessible to others. This could be a locked drawer, or a hidden spot in your home.

2. If you have more than 1 key for the safe, avoid storing them together in the same spot. That way, you avoid losing them both at the same time

3. Take photos of your keys: in case you lose your keys, this can help you get you replacements in many instances. Just make sure that the cuts are visible as well as the codes (if there are any). If your keys are tubular, you should take a few photos that show the cuts all around the key as well as a photo of the inside of the key barrel.

Pro tip: Emailing the photos to yourself is an extra step of precaution in case the photos get deleted from your phone.

4. Make a backup copy: If you have only one safe key, consider making a backup copy and storing it with a trusted friend or in a different safe location in your home. This can come in handy if you ever lose your primary key. We can help you get that done if you get in touch.

5. Use a tracking device: There are now tracking devices available that can help you locate your keys if you misplace them. Some of these devices use Bluetooth technology to connect with your smartphone and help you find your keys. Here are some examples of affordable key trackers:

* Chipolo Tracker (pack of 1x)

* Tile Mate Tracker (pack of 3x)

* Nutale Bluetooth Tracker (pack of 4x)

* Esky Key Finder (pack of 6x)

It is a common misconception that the safest place to store your safe keys is inside the safe. That is not ideal because when the batteries dies, you will not be able to open the safe or get the keys for that matter.

I have the key code but no keys

Well, this situation is a bit tricky and does not have a definitive answer. This situation is a bit tricky and does not have a definitive answer.

In theory, you may be able to copy a key from the code on the key, on the keyhole or on the side of the safe. But sometimes, the codes are too short to translate into a functioning key or they’re simply too long to be key codes.

Since there is no direct answer to this, the best course of action would be to send an enquiry with the code and a photo of the keyhole. The engineers will take a look at it and get back to you with a solution.
